A little novella. Big city romance? Or perhaps just a soap opera.
Having lived and worked in big cities, I would stare out of the window subconsciously watching the traffic, the changing light and shadows, and occasionally spotting someone also staring out their window, thinking goodness know what.
Which is how this little novella came into being...
For quite a while, a tune of any sort eluded me, and soo I passed the lyrics along to my pal, Eric Luskin,
who surprised me with a demo soon afterwards...
I dubbed my vocal over his wonderful instrumental tracks, and kept it as is for the final CD version.
Lyrics
Clock sits on the mantle
Echoes in the hall
Shadows in the alley
Pictures crooked on the wall
Times is ticking slowly
In the heavy summer heat
A trail of burned out matches
From the hallway to the street
Twilight Mystery
Silent at the window
Peeking through her blinds
Ceaseless blur of traffic
Concealing as it glides
Her tension betrays her longing
Trace of perfume in the air
The ebb and the flow and the murmur
Yellow taxi drops its fare
Twilight Mystery
Shadows become longer
In twilight's dying sun
Mirages in the harbor
Where went the missing one?
Purple walls of concrete
Daily dramas played
Industry & fashion meeting in
An anguished passion play
After five
Where else could she be?
Was their love still alive?
Their hearts floated free
Their hearts floated free
Twilight Mystery
Unexpected phone call
Washing dishes in her sink
Could it be her friend or her lover
She needs more time to think
Hearts are thumping faster
Feeling summer's beat
A pair no longer strangers
Tame their disbelief
Twilight Mystery
After five
Where else could she be?
Was their love still alive?
Their hearts floated free
Their hearts floated free
Twilight Mystery
